TECHNIQUE
The drawings are done on 22"x30" watercolor paper, large printing paper,
or masonite covered with acrylic gesso. Concentrating on rendering space, Brian
focuses on atmospheric perspective to create an illusion of depth. He often begins
a graphite drawing by covering the entire surface with powdered graphite using a cloth.
And then, using an eraser, defines the shapes and highlights. A variety of textures and
tones are achieved by combining charcoal and/or rubbing alcohol with the graphite and
applying it with a brush or scraping the surface with a palette knife. |
