Drawing Pencil

Traditional Light to Dark Value

  • Draw lines, shapes and spaces with 2H-4H graphite pencils.
  • Fill in areas with HB to 6B graphite pencils.
  • Apply varied pressure to pencil against paper to achieve various values in drawing.

    Tinting Effect Using White

  • Draw a design using traditional light to dark value techniques.
  • Draw over graphite areas with white pencil to achieve tint in drawing.
  • Wet brush techniques may be used over drawing for additional effects.

    Wet Pencil

  • Dip pencils into water.
  • Draw using traditional light to dark value techniques.
  • Draw gently with wet pencil on dry or wet paper.

    Wet Brush

  • Draw using traditional light to dark value techniques.
  • Apply wet brush over painted areas in drawing to achieve painted effect.
  • Add more water to achieve wash effects.
